Smartwatches have stores like the smartphones where you can install apps you as per your choice. Apple have over 10k+ apps in its store, pebble have over 13k and Android wear is 4000+. In short they support all the major apps.
Fitness
Smartwatches comes with great health and fitness support. They come with many sensors to monitor your activities and health. Pedometers, heart rate monitors, accelerometers, barometers, altimeter are some of the sensors which are found on most smartwatches. Smartwatches are nowadays replacing the dedicated fitness trackers.
Features
Smartwatches come with many features and functions packed in small device. Most of the smartwatches have features like navigation(get directions), music players, notification, camera remote and connect to you phone and do a whole lots of stuffs.
1. Notification – Most Smartwatch notifies you about the incoming calls, messages, emails. Some even gives you notification about your social networks like facebook and twitter. If you miss you can check them later, some will show most recent 50 notifications. In Apple watch, you can check them in notification center by simply swiping down.
2. Calls – Some smartphones allow you to Answer incoming calls and make outgoing calls directly from your smartwatch. Apple watch, Samsung gear S2, Moto 360 2nd gen, Asus Zenwatch, Titan Juxt Pro are some having the feature. Newer ones of other brands are also introducing the feature.
3. Water resistance – Most smartwatch comes with water resistance to some extent. Thy come with IP67 or IP68 rating. Now what this mean, IP67 and IP68 are rating and defines to what extent the device is water resistant. IP68 being more resistant. Now in real world example they are splash-proof, resistant to sweating, and is water resistant if they accidentally fall into water.
4. Voice support – Most of the smartphone supports voice commands, use google Ok on android wear and Siri on Apple watch.
5. Battery and charging – The battery life depends a lot on the features you use. If you are using to make or receiving calls a lot or use the inbuilt speaker the battery won’t last long. However the smartwatches with E-paper display can last as long as 4-5 days. On normal usage a battery will last for approx 15 to 20 hours.
6. Customization – These smart watches are most stylish in their category. More and more brands like Tag Heuer and Michael Kors are coming into the market. Smartwatches come in many strap options from leather, to steel to sport bands, woven nylon. Apple watch have much expensive premium Hermes Straps. The watch faces are square, round in different sizes. Apple watch comes in aluminum casing with size from 38 mm to 42 mm. Pebble and MotoG 360 comes with a lot of customization option.
7. Independent of smartphone – The LG Urbane 2 LTE, Samsung gear S2 3G and the latest Samsung gear S3 are some smartwatches which work independent of your smartphone. You can leave your smartphone at home and wear the device to do almost anything you do on your phone.
8. GPS – Some smartwatch have built-in GPS support to track distance, speed. Smartwatches by Garmin, Apple series 2, and many more have the feature.
